Cam’ron Talks Ma$e Feud, Possible ‘Diplomatic Immunity 3’ Album & New Movie ‘Honor Up’

Cam’ron Talks Ma$e Feud, Possible ‘Diplomatic Immunity 3’ Album & New Movie ‘Honor Up’

Cam’ron‘s name has been brought to the hip-hop forefront once again, after Ma$e dropped the Cam dis “The Oracle” (Nov. 24), sending the internet into a frenzy, making for heated rap debates the past few weeks. Killa responded with “Dinner Time” and it’s anyone’s best guess if this is the last of the longstanding feud. On Tuesday (Dec. 12) Cam took over Reebok’s ‘3:AM’ launch event inside the cozy NYC 33 space for an energetic performance.

The 41-year-old was draped in red Dipset attire — from the jacket, to the chain and even gloves — donning the signature Harlem crew’s eagle logo. Killa Cam brought out the turn-of-the-century classics throughout his five-track set, giving the near 100 fans a nostalgic feeling. He made his way throughout the venue, as he performed the stand-out smashes from 2002’s Come Home With Me, “Oh Boy” and “Hey Ma.” With a Dipset reunion on the horizon, Cam turned back the clock with Diplomatic Immunity‘s “I Really Mean It” before the frequent Reebok collaborator exited backstage from the pumped up crowd.

Billboard caught up with the Purple Haze artist after his performance to talk about his beef with his onetime “Horse & Carriage” collaborator Ma$e, how he ended up starring in Dame Dash‘s forthcoming movie Honor Up, a possible Dipset project in 2018 and why he defended Kanye West on The Program.

What made this the right time to drop your new mixtape The Program?

Cam’ron: My DJ kept saying I’m bullshitting and that I don’t want this shit no more. I could put shit out whenever, because I got a studio in my house. Eight of the songs I already had for two years, but the rest are new, and I had to prove him wrong.

Can you explain what you meant when you defended Kanye West on “Coleslaw?”

Yeah, I don’t want anyone to think that’s a diss track. Kanye said something about JAY-Z and he went AWOL and dyed his hair blonde. I was like, “He doesn’t have to go through all that, he’s fucking Kanye West.” I just wanted to send that message to him. That’s basically it.

How did you get involved with Honor Up?

To be honest, Dame Dash was shooting that movie three years ago and I went on set to say what’s up, and he’s like, “Cam, get in the movie.” It turned into me being in the movie for four days. I had to go upstate and shoot scenes. A hello turned into five days. I just went to say what’s up, and now I’m in the movie. Just to see it finally coming together with editing and getting a deal through Lionsgate — it’s dope to watch that process.

Do you believe your beef with Ma$e is over?

I don’t know. I’ve been on tour. When I see him, it will be something different. Right now, I’m onto something different. Maybe I’ll talk about it on The Program 2 when I put that out. Like I said, I’ve never really dissed Ma$e — I just tell you the truth and if you think he’s a sucker for that, it ain’t my fault.

Is Diplomatic Immunity 3 on the way?

I’m not sure yet. We just did about five new songs together. I don’t know if that’s going to be Diplomatic Immunity 3 or [if we’ll] just put new music out, like an EP.

Would you like to make a career as a sports analyst on ESPN?

I got a lot of people wanting me to do it, because I’m really knowledgeable in sports. If someone structures it for me, cool. I watch so much sports traveling, and I got a lot of athlete friends, so if it makes sense and fits my schedule, it’s possible.

What do you think about LaVar Ball and the Big Baller Brand movement?

I haven’t purchased any Big Baller Brand sneakers yet, but I respect his hustle and movement, but the way he comes off is kind of rude and may rub people the wrong way. I think his approach is a little aggressive and could scare some people, but I understand the format in what he’s trying to do. Lonzo Ball’s had Nikes on the last three games, though.

Are you planning on releasing more solo music soon?

I have a strand of weed coming out on April 20 called Pink Mink, and I’m going to release music with it. I kind of had it almost done, but I’m going to add new music because I like to stay current. If I wanted to put it out tomorrow I could.

When is your next collaboration with Reebok due out?

The new Fleebok 4s come out in June. I really can’t say much else about it.
