Cabello joined Billboard’s Facebook Live reveal of the top 10 Monday & celebrated her first leader.
Welcome to the Billboard Chart Beat Podcast, where each week co-hosts Gary Trust and Trevor Anderson, from the Billboard charts department, discuss why what’s on the charts … is on the charts, while also looking at current chart action in a historical context for even greater insights.
Today, we’ve got a quick, emergency podcast, as Camila Cabello dialed in to the Billboard Hot 100 Top 10 Countdown and reveal on Facebook Live Monday (Jan. 22), with Gary, Trevor and Kevan Kenney, to learn that “Havana,” featuring Young Thug, had become her first No. 1 on the Hot 100. The coronation accompanies parent album Camila debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard 200.
“It’s been such a journey with ‘Havana,’ because, I mean, I released the song last summer,” Cabello marveled in the chat, presented here in podcast form. “It’s just amazing to see that people have connected to it so much.
“When we were making the song, even though it was really special to me, I don’t think anyone expected for this to happen. It’s an incredible surprise.”
Cabello also previews upcoming touring plans and serves up an exclusive a cappella snippet of an unreleased song that she wrote with Ed Sheeran, “The Boy.” Although the collab didn’t make it onto Camila, you can hear a catchy, off-the-cuff clip here.
