Yinka Ayefele Sues Oyo Govt Over Proposed Demolition Of His Radio Station

Popular Nigerian musician, Yinka Ayefele, has sued the Oyo State Government over the planned demolition of his Music House, a sprawling structure housing his radio station, Fresh FM. Reports have it that the state government had marked the structure located on the Challenge-Toll Gate road for demolition for allegedly contravening the state’s planning laws. But Mr Ayefele had approached an Oyo State High Court sitting in Ibadan seeking to stop the planned demolition. Mr Ayefele’s counsel, Olayinka Bolanle, in an exparte motion, filed before the court, sought for an order of the court restraining the state government from demolishing the property pending the determination of the suit. Ariana Grande was the musical guest on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon on Thursday night, where she paid tribute to Aretha Franklin, who died earlier in the day after a years-long battle with cancer.  With support from the Roots, Grande covered Franklin’s classic from 1967, “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman.” Grande, whose much anticipated fourth studio set Sweetener dropped at midnight, was scheduled to perform a comedy sketch to promote her new album, but instead opened the show with the emotional performance.  According to reports, Grande, who earlier in the day posted a photo of herself with Franklin, broke down in tears backstage after the song.  Watch the performance below. The Federal Government has declared Tuesday, August 21, and Wednesday, August 22, as public holidays for the celebration of the 2018 Eid-el-Kabir.   Minister of Interior Abdulrahman Dambazau announced the decision on Thursday in a statement by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mohammed Umar.   The minister wished Nigerians a happy Eid-el-Kabir celebration and urged them to embrace the virtues of love and sacrifice for the unity and development of the country. He also called on Nigerians to support the Federal Government as it is determined to foster peace and unity in the country.

Rapper Juelz Santana Pleads Guilty to Airport Gun Charge

Rapper Juelz Santana admitted in court Thursday that he tried to get a gun onto a plane at a New York-area airport earlier this year. Santana, whose real name is LaRon James, pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and carrying a weapon on an aircraft. The 36-year-old Totowa resident faces up to 20 years in prison when he is sentenced Dec. 12. Santana was arrested in March after security staff at New Jersey’s Newark Liberty International Airport found a loaded .38-caliber handgun and nonprescription oxycodone pills in a carry-on bag containing his identification on March 9.
