Spotify, Berklee & Electric Lady Studios Launch EQL Studio Residency Program for Female Producers, Engineers

Spotify, in partnership with Berklee College of Music and Electric Lady Studios, has announced that it will be launching the Equal (EQL) Studio Residency Program for emerging female producers and engineers. ​The program, which will begin on Oct. 1, will offer residencies in three different cities: New York, Nashville and London. During these paid six-month residencies, one participant in each city will work hands-on in Spotify’s studios and gain access to invaluable networking and mentoring opportunities to further their career. “Women are underrepresented as artists, songwriters, engineers and producers,” said Kerry Steib, director of cultural impact, Spotify. “We have to use our resources to create opportunities to address this, and do it with great partners across the industry. Cabo San Lucas is already a hotspot for spring break frequenters, and next year’s trips could include a heavy dose of hip-hop for college students. JusCollege has enlisted a range of rap stars such as the Migos, Lil Uzi Vert, Rick Ross, Playboi Carti, and more to headline their Cabo Spring Break 2019 concert series next year, as Billboard can exclusively announce. An alternate trio is set to perform each week on Sunday through Tuesday, running from March 3 to March 26. Other artists outside the hip-hop realm on the tour include Steve Aoki, Galantis,Illenium, Louis the Child, Zeds Dead, and Troyboi. Aretha Franklin Dies At 76 After Battle With Cancer

Music legend, Aretha Franklin has died today August 16th, at the of age 76. The legendary soul singer died in her Detroit home under hospice care and surrounded by family. She  was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2010 and announced last year she was retiring from music. She was admitted into the hospital on Monday after being in a critical state and her family asked fans for prayers. She will be remembered for her hit songs like “Respect” and “Natural Woman.” May her soul rest in peace. May her soul rest in peace, Amen.
