YABATECH graduate abused for damaging car commits suicide

Barely two weeks to the commencement of his one year National Youth Service Scheme, a graduate of the Yaba College of Technology, Oluwamuyiwa Oluwagbemileke, aka Spartacus, has ended his life. The 27-year-old graduate of electrical engineering reportedly took a poison on Wednesday after he was blamed for damaging a car in a sachet water factory in Ojodu Berger, Lagos, where he worked. PUNCH Metro learnt that he had hit the vehicle on another one on the factory premises while trying to help the owner re-park it. The Osogbo, Osun State indigene, was said to have become desperate to raise N50,000 to repair the damaged car. 16-year-old girl kills her baby by sticking rock in her throat an hour after giving birth

A 16-year-old is accused of killing her newborn baby after shoving a rock down her throat. Alaya Dotson, of Denver, allegedly put the rock in the baby’s throat an hour after giving birth, police said. Police said Dotson explained she was unaware of her pregnancy and realized she was giving birth while using the bathroom in her home in September. Dotson said after giving birth she took the newborn up to her room and laid on the floor next to the infant, Fox News reported. The teen told police that the baby girl’s arms were “moving back and forth, but she was not crying.” Dotson reportedly told authorities that she wrapped the baby in a blanket and went outside onto her patio where she put a rock in the newborn’s throat, police said. A 40-year-old man, Likita Manu, has been arrested by the police in Niger State for allegedly killing his 100-year-old mother, Inne Kaiyo, for alleged witchcraft. Manu was said to have accused his aged mother of killing his daughter, Magajiya, with witchcraft.He was said to have allegedly descended on his mother, beating her with a stick, after his daughter died. According to the police, Manu was joined in the beating by his 80-year-old father, Kwacha, who is also being detained. Lagos to shut tax defaulting firms,banks from Nov 20th

Tax defaulting firms are to be shut down by the Lagos State Government from today Commissioner for Finance Akinyemi Ashade, said yesterday. He said some banks had failed to remit statutory taxes, including withholding taxes on banks’ interests for more than 10 years.
