J. Cole Announces New Album ‘KOD’ Out Friday

The rapper performed all 12 tracks at a surprise NYC show on Monday night.

J. Cole surprised New York City fans Monday night (April 16) with a free show, performing his upcoming record in its entirety for the lucky few.

After the concert, he revealed on Twitter the album’s title and release date: KOD will be out this Friday.

At around 4 p.m. ET Monday, the rapper posted a cryptic message on Twitter asking his followers to “come through” to the Gramercy Theatre at 6 p.m. ET, with strict instructions to leave phones, bags and cameras at home.

Soon after the show, Rap Radar’s B.Dot took to Twitter to give a glimpse into the intimate event, revealing that J. Cole performed all 12 songs from KOD, which he says stands for three different subtitles: kidz on drugz, king overdose and kill our demonz.

B.Dot also revealed that the entire album was recorded in two weeks.

Billboard has reached out to Roc Nation for further details on the upcoming project, Cole’s fifth album and his first since 2016’s 4 Your Eyez Only.
