Liverpool bounced back from successive Women’s Super League One defeats with a win over Sunderland in Casey Stoney’s final game for the club.
Stoney, who will join Lionesses boss Phil Neville’s staff after ending her 23-year-playing career, was sent out on a high by two goals from Jess Clarke.
The forward tapped in Alex Greenwood’s cross but Dominique Bruinenberg found the corner to make it 1-1 at half-time.
Clarke headed in another Greenwood cross and Bethany England made it 3-1.
Liverpool had been thrashed 3-0 and 4-0 by Arsenal and Manchester City in their two previous league outings, but responded well to move up to third – above Arsenal, who play Everton on Friday.
Clarke combined excellently with Greenwood, finishing well from two pin-point crosses, and came close to claiming a hat-trick, volleying narrowly over the bar late on.
