The best since Bradman? How does Smith do it?

Steve Smith averages 75 in Tests as captain of Australia The scale of the damage done to England by Steve Smith’s double century in the third Ashes Test is only matched by the sense of inevitability that the Australia skipper would get a monster score when he had only a few runs to his name. Smith added an unbeaten 229 to the 141 not out he made in the first Test and averages more than 200 in the series. He is winning the Ashes for his country. Not only that, but he is underlining his status as the number one Test batsman in the world. And that’s just in the present day. His heavy scoring, consistency and thirst for runs are drawing comparisons with the greatest of them all, Sir Donald Bradman. The numbers Smith made his maiden century in the fifth Test against England in Augus...

Here Is The True State Of Relationship Between Olamide, Lil Kesh And Adekunle Gold

Even as the likes of Lil Kesh and Adekunle Gold have left YBNL, Olamide, the owner of the record label says he still sees them as his brothers. In a chat with Saturday Beats, Olamide said that there was no bad blood between them, referring to the young singers as his brothers.  “I feel everyone is entitled to their opinion; I am just living my own dream. It is not about Adekunle Gold or Lil Keshi not being on my label but maintaining a good relationship with them. We have a good relationship as we are brothers, so it is not just about business. Definitely, they would be at my show,” he said. Speaking on his show, which is to hold in at Teslim Balogun Stadium, the singer explained that he was very excited especially about the venue and he was optimistic that his fans would fill up the 25,00...

This Is What Seyi Shay Did To Enlarge Her Backside

Sultry Nigerian singer, Seyi Shay, broke the Internet when a picture of her dressed in a transparent outfit surfaced on the web. It was obvious the singer wasn’t wearing panties under the dress. The picture caused so much ruckus even amongst fellow celebs who were aghast that the singer could wear such outfit in public. But it is so apparent that Seyi doesn’t care whose ox is gored as she told Saturday Beats recently she was so proud and comfortable wearing the outfit.  “I wore that dress in New York. I dare not wear such in Nigeria. New York is one of the most fashion inclined cities in the world. The dress was made by Sokayna who is a crème de la crème designer in the world. He is Senegalese but he is doing very well for himself. Recently, Rihanna, Madonna and even Nicki Minaj, wore the ...

LA Galaxy to acquire San Jose keeper David Bingham – sources

The Galaxy are betting David Bingham fills a need at goalkeeper. The LA Galaxy are in the final stages of completing a deal that would see them acquire San Jose Earthquakes goalkeeper David Bingham, sources have confirmed to ESPN FC. If the deal is completed, San Jose will receive a combination of General Allocation Money and Targeted Allocation Money between $200,000 and $250,000. Bingham, 28, would join the Galaxy after enduring a difficult 2017 campaign, one in which he lost his starting spot in San Jose to Andrew Tarbell. However, Bingham does have considerable MLS experience. He was an understudy to Jon Busch for four seasons before securing the starting role in 2015. He went on to play in 96 league matches, and also got called up by the United States during that time, making three ap...

Pachuca beat Al-Jazira to claim Club World Cup third spot

10:56 AM ET Associated Press Mexican side Pachuca claimed third place at the Club World Cup with a comprehensive 4-1 win over Al-Jazira. Jonathan Urretaviscaya opened the scoring in the 37th minute before Khaflan Mubarak equalised shortly after half-time. But the game was level for just three minutes before Franco Jara struck on the hour mark and Roberto de la Rosa made the result safe with 10 minutes remaining. Angel Sagal then added some gloss with a strike minutes later.

Inter Milan lose first game of season as Udinese hammer Serie A leaders

11:03 AM ET Udinese ended Inter Milan’s unbeaten start to the Serie A season and left them vulnerable to surrendering top spot after winning 3-1 at San Siro. The Nerazzurri — boasting 12 wins and four draws from their opening 16 games — were a point clear of Napoli and another beyond reigning champions Juventus heading into Saturday’s clash. But Inter failed to heed the lesson they should have learned in midweek when third-tier Pordenone almost pulled off a shock Coppa Italia result in Milan — the minnows only losing after penalties. Massimo Oddo’s in-form team took the lead through Kevin Lasagna, with Mauro Icardi promptly levelling, and in the second half Udinese won it through Rodrigo De Paul and Antonin Barak. Napoli will now hope to take over in the...

Christian Benteke strikes as Crystal Palace win at Leicester

9:21 AM ET Christian Benteke put his penalty misery behind him to inspire resurgent Crystal Palace to their first away win of the season as 10-man Leicester were beaten 3-0. The striker scored his first goal since May in a victory that came a week after he defied team orders by taking — and missing — a penalty against Bournemouth. Another apology saw him set up the impressive Wilfred Zaha for a goal, with Bakary Sako adding a late third as Palace moved up to 14th. Roy Hodgson’s men are now unbeaten in seven games and their cause was aided by sloppy Leicester, who had birthday boy Wilfred Ndidi sent off in the second half. Vicente Iborra had a goal disallowed for the hosts, who had previously won four straight games, as they missed the chance to move within two points of t...

Welcome to CTRL+T, TechCrunch’s podcast about tech and culture

Without further ado, it brings us great pleasure to introduce you to CTRL+T, a new podcast hosted by TechCrunch Reporter Megan Rose Dickey and Editorial Director Henry Pickavet. On this week’s episode, we discuss former Facebook executive Chamath Palihapitiya’s declaration that the social network is effectively “destroying how society works,” the FCC’s vote on repealing net neutrality and Netflix reminding everyone it’s spying on its customers. Later in the show, MRD chats with Shonda Rhimes, the creator of network hits like Scandal, Grey’s Anatomy and How to Get Away with Murder. We discussed her new contract with Netflix, what we can expect to see from her on the streaming media platform, differences between network and streaming media and strong black women. What’s exciting to Rhimes is...

Netflix will look for a repeat play in 2018 after a strong year

Netflix had a pretty good year by very Netflix-y standards: it added a ton of subscribers; its international growth plans seem to be playing out as hoped; it cleaned up in the Golden Globe nominations, and users are watching a ton of Netflix. While the company has continued to show growth with its existing strategy — investing a ton in its original content strategy in the hope that it’ll convert Emmy and Grammy awards into subscribers — it’s going to get more expensive. Netflix has basically acknowledged that as it says it’s going to ramp up its original content and marketing spend, and in October said it would raise up to $1.6 billion in debt. In short, its strategy that worked this year will, in theory, play out next year as it looks to continue putting out strong original shows. The com...
