Mariah Carey Redeems Herself With New Year’s Eve Performance

Mariah Carey New Year’s Eve Redemption 12/31/2017 10:31 PM PST Mariah Carey took the stage once again during Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve … and this year the performance was seemingly flawless. Mimi braved the frigid temps in Times Square Sunday — where she was joined by about a million people — and performed “So Faithfully” and “Hero.” Carey’s vocals went uninterrupted, a total 180 from last year’s disaster. TMZ broke the story — Mariah completed soundcheck earlier in the day without any issues — it appears that practice made perfect.  Mariah Carey’s performance of Hero (continued) pic.twitter.com/F3NiD3Urvb — mariah carey archive (@mariaharchive) January 1, 2018

Singapore football must build a star overseas to create a brighter 2018

As a dismal 2017 for Singapore football draws to a close, John Wilkinson joins Jason Dasey to reveal his hopes for 2018. After the annus horribilis that was 2017, the only way is up for Singapore football. So with the New Year upon us, here are five hopeful wishes for the local game in 2018. 1. Build a star overseas Fandi Ahmad swung his left boot, the ball flashed past Walter Zenga and a superstar was born. The Singaporean’s goal against Inter Milan in the UEFA Cup for Groningen in 1983 elevated the sport’s status. There’s no national service quite like it. A foreign trailblazer in a superior league works wonders for morale and provides an antidote to all that kiasuism. Like Fandi, Daniel Bennett’s spell at Wrexham and Safuwan Baharudin’s stint at Melbourne C...

Stoke lacking ‘tools’ to compete with Chelsea – Mark Hughes

Stoke boss Mark Hughes explains his decision to rest certain key players against Chelsea in preparation for the Potters’ next match at Everton. Mark Hughes knew his weakened Stoke side would not beat Chelsea even before their thumping defeat on Saturday. Hughes made six changes and rested key players at Stamford Bridge, including Xherdan Shaqiri, Joe Allen and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, as Chelsea duly strolled to a 5-0 victory. Stoke were three goals down in 23 minutes and the emphatic nature of their loss left Hughes open to accusations of failing even to put up a fight. But the Welshman defended his selection by insisting his players would stand a better chance of success in Monday’s more winnable fixture at home to Newcastle. “We didn’t have enough tools to affec...

Zac Efron Recalls the Phone Call With Michael Jackson That Had Them Both in Tears

Zac Efron never met Michael Jackson in person, but he did share an emotional phone call with the late King of Pop, who was one of his idols. The actor, now 30, unexpectedly ended up on the line with Jackson while in Paris promoting one of the High School Musical movies, when he was 20 or 21 years old. He shared the memory during a recent appearance on The Graham Norton Show. HSM director Kenny Ortega, who worked with Jackson on his documentary and concern film This Is It just before the singer’s death, ended up taking a call from Jackson while out to dinner with Efron. “His phone rang, and I remember I got this look, like … ‘You want this phone call.’ I was like, ‘Okay,’ so I came over and was like, ‘What’s going on?’ He goes, ...

Thousands to Ring in 2018 in Las Vegas Under Tight Security

Tens of thousands of revelers will ring in the new year in Las Vegas under the close eye of throngs of law enforcement officers and National Guard members assembled to keep them safe just three months after the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history. Will Smith, beloved actor and star of Netflix’s Bright, may have been one of the very few humans on the planet not on Instagram before 2017, but his presence on the social media platform this year has been nothing short of amazing. On Sunday (Dec. 31), Smith took to Instagram to celebrate 20 years of marriage to Girls Trip actress Jada Pinkett and to also offer sound advice on how to maintain a strong union — regardless if you’re an A-list celebrity or not. “Twenty years ago today we held hands and walked naively down that aisle. Here’s what I’ve learned since,” Smith said. “Love is like gardening. I have learned to focus on HELPING you to BLOSSOM into what YOU want to be (into what you were born to be) rather than demanding that you become what my Fragile Ego needs you to be.” Smith...

Everton’s Aaron Lennon thankful for support after trying year

Sam Allardyce bemoans Everton’s inability to score goals and says his side gifted Bournemouth three points.
