Eleven musician finalists will be selected and supported by the annual global music community event.
Global music community event Midem launched its Midem Artist Accelerator (MAA) program on Thursday (Jan. 4) with a call for artist submissions.
The MAA program — now in its fourth year — helps steer 11 selected musicians toward international success with the guidance of an Artistic Committee that includes executives from around the world.
This year’s Midem will be held June 5-8 in Cannes, France, for four days of forums, networking and concerts.
MAA finalists gain access to Midem’s panel of experts and their business expertise, the opportunity to perform live on the main Cannes beach stage and the benefit of access and exposure at Midem, including coaching sessions and assisted networking opportunities. Their music will also be featured on Midem’s communication material, including an official vinyl compilation and playlist.
The Artistic Committee of industry experts for the 2018 MAA includes: Abiola Oke, CEO and publisher, OkayAfrica (U.S./Africa); Alex Okosi, evp and managing director, Viacom International Media Networks Africa/BET International (Africa); Christian Bernhardt, agent, United Talent Agency (U.S.); Devraj Sanyal, managing director and CEO, Universal Music Group South Asia/EMI Music South Asia/Enchanted Valley Carnival (India); Patrik Larsson, A&R and label manager, Playground Music Scandinavia (Sweden); Rob Hallett, founder, Robomagic (U.K.); and Willy Ehmann, svp domestic GSA, Sony Music Entertainment (Germany).
“I am looking forward to participating at Midem 2018, since it is an important platform that brings together key stakeholders from around the world to support emerging talent that will shape the global music scene for years to come,” said Okosi. “The music industry continues to evolve in very exciting ways with the emergence of fresh artists, strong collaborations, dynamic live events and immersive platforms.”
Among the MAA’s past finalists are Flo Morrissey of the United Kingdom, Geoffroy of Canada, Alo Wala of Denmark, Club cheval of France, Ghetts of the U.K., M.anifest of Ghana, Shakka of the U.K. and Synapson of France, among others.
“Midem is the home of the global music industry,” added Midem director Alexandre Deniot. “The Midem Artist Accelerator programme is a unique opportunity to bring a fresh batch of emerging talent to the international stage. MAA puts talent where it belongs — at the heart of Midem.”
MAA submissions will be accepted until Jan. 28 at Midem’s website here.
