MAKURDI—Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has vowed to apprehend the masterminds of the heinous murder of retired Major Lawrence Ugbo, a former state Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who was killed and burnt at Ogobia, Ugboju District of Otukpo Local Government Area of the state.
The elder statesman was killed by armed youths late last week in a protracted crisis arising from the bitter rivalry between a former Otukpo council chairman, Ijachi Udenyi, who is of the APC and and his younger brother, Benjamin Udenyi, a PDP faithful.
Governor Ortom, who alongside his deputy, Benson Abounu, and the Council Chairman, George Alli, undertook an on-the-spot assessment of the scene of the crisis, also visited the home of the retired military officer to condole his family.
Speaking shortly after, the governor said: “Those who undertook to kill a man who fought for the unity of this country in this manner will certainly not go unpunished.
“I can assure you that all those who have been fingered in this crisis will be arrested and punished accordingly because there is no way we will allow or tolerate this type of barbaric act in our state.”
