PSG ran rampant on Monaco at Parc des Princes to reclaim the Ligue 1 title with five matches to spare.

Paris Saint-Germain’s Thiago Silva believes Kylian Mbappe can become “the best player in the world” alongside teammate Neymar, the club’s captain has told TFI’s Telefoot.

Silva has no doubt that Mbappe, 19, is headed for the summit of the game after their first season playing together.

“Kylian has the ability to play at the very, very highest level, and to be the best player in the world — like Neymar,” Silva said of Mbappe, who has scored 13 goals and assisted seven more in 24 appearances in Ligue 1. “We, his teammates, are here to try to help him get there.”

Since PSG’s second consecutive Champions League round-of-16 exit, this time at the hands of Real Madrid, Silva’s future with PSG has been questioned — especially since he was dropped in favour of youth academy graduate Presnel Kimpembe by coach Unai Emery at the Santiago Bernabeu.

However, Silva has rejected the idea that he is no longer focused on staying with the Ligue 1 leaders.

“I think that it is normal that my mind is at PSG,” Silva said. “I am sure that the project will continue and strive to realise its dreams.”

On the topic of the Champions League, Silva admitted that PSG are having a tough time of making good on their promise to win the competition, but he believes that next season will bring another chance to triumph.

Paris Saint-Germain's Thiago Silva
Thiago Silva has insisted that he is not looking to leave Paris Saint-Germain.

“We win together and we lose together,” Silva said. “It is never easy. Yes, each year that goes by, the Champions League gets even more difficult.

“Of course, we have a chance of winning the title because we have a good squad and an ambitious project in front of us. Now, for next season, we are going to do everything to be ready to do well in the Champions League.”

Speculation continues to surround the future of PSG and Brazil forward Neymar and Silva is adamant that letting his compatriot leave after just one season is not part of the club’s plans.

“I have spoken with Neymar,” Silva said. “I do not know when he will return. This project is with Neymar, of course.”
