CHVRCHES Don’t Have All the Answers, But They’ve Found a Map With ‘Love Is Dead’

“You’re trying to wade through that frustration and confusion,” Lauren Mayberry says. Scotland’s finest synth-pop export CHVRCHES (Lauren Mayberry, Iain Cook and Martin Doherty) has returned returned today (May 25) with their excellent third album Love Is Dead.  If it feels like a while since we’ve heard from CHVRCHES, who stopped touring towards the end of 2016 — which in a fan’s mind can roughly translate to a band disappearing off the face of the earth — it’s only because they were busy focusing on this next effort. Mayberry did go on a holiday before getting back in the studio, though: “I went to an island in the Bahamas full of iguanas. You don’t live on the island, obviously, because it’s solely populated by iguanas and it’s not a...

Shawn Mendes Gets Hands-On With Spotify-Only ‘Nervous’ Vertical Video: Watch

As if the release of his third studio album wasn’t enough excitement in one day for the Mendes Army, Shawn Mendes has also hopped on the vertical video bandwagon with a black and white clip for “Nervous” Friday (May 25), currently only available on Spotify. The singer/songwriter keeps it visually simple as he plugs away at the jam’s escalating guitar riffs. While it initially appears to be a solo effort à la Taylor Swift‘s “Delicate,” it’s only a few seconds into Mendes’ round when we see he actually isn’t alone at all. An anonymous pair of friendly hands begin caressing the singer as he serenades along — but rather than embracing the song’s title, his smiling hints that he doesn’t seem to mind. The owner of the ...

Train Teams Up With Cam, Travie McCoy For New Track ‘Call Me Sir’: Listen

Train released their latest single today (May 24) titled “Call Me Sir.” The track, which features country artist Cam and former Gym Class Heroes frontman Travie McCoy, is a romantic pop song about lead man Pat Monahan only being respected when he’s with his lady. “When I ride by myself, I don’t ever get no help, but when I roll up with her, everybody calls me sir,” Monahan sings over a syncopated guitar. “It’s a true story and I love what these 2 bring to the song,” Monahan said in a statement. “I hope everyone will like this one as much as we love performing it.” Check out the single below: [embedded content]

Lydia Premieres Wes Anderson-Esque ‘Sunlight’ Video From Upcoming ‘Liquor’ Album

Lydia has a two-part video adventure for fans as it prepares for the July 13 release of its seventh album, Liquor. The arty pop troupe starts with a clip for the opening track “Sunlight,” premiering exclusively below, for which director Adam VillaSenor cops a slightly unsettling Wes Anderson-style pastiche about a couple in the midst of a love-hate relationship that occasionally turns violent — in contrast to the track’s cheerful melodic countenance. The follow-up clip for the track, “Let It Cover Me Up,” will tell more of the tale. “It’s kind of like a long short story,” Lydia frontman Leighton Antelman tells Billboard. “We’ve never done anything like that before, but I think Adam did a really good job with it.” The s...

Matisyahu Releases Energetic New Single ‘Coming From Afar’ Featuring Mavado

After releasing Undercurrent in 2017, Matisyahu has returned with his latest single “Coming From Afar” featuring Jamaican reggae singer Mavado. “Mavado is the truth,” Matisyahu said of working with the artist. “Getting the chance to work with a real artist in an industry filled with lots of generic singer was a gift.” The single is a rambunctious reggae-infused track that finds both Matis and Mavado bouncing along in their comfort zones as they swap verses. Matis sticks to rapping this time around, while Mavado provides the melody. “Having the opportunity to create with him was one of the highlights of my career so far.
