Thibaut Courtois in no hurry over new Chelsea deal and focused on matches

Chelsea’s Antonio Conte believes his side must be at their best to beat Qarabag after they drew twice with Atletico Madrid.

Thibaut Courtois has said he sees no rush to hold talks with Chelsea over a new contract.

Goalkeeper Courtois, who has been linked with Real Madrid, said he was happy to wait until he enters the final year of his current deal next summer.

The Belgium international would become a free agent in 2019, and Chelsea are keen to extend his contract in order to end speculation about his future.

But with the Premier League champions facing a hectic schedule as they compete in the Champions League, playing Qarabag on Wednesday, Courtois said: “The most important thing is to perform well for myself and the team.

“Regarding my contract, that’s something where Chelsea must deal with my agent [Christophe Henrotay]. I don’t think there have been any new developments.

“We have so many games at the moment, and I prefer to focus on the team’s matches, my own performances, and there will be time enough towards the end of the season to have talks.”

Real Madrid have long considered Courtois and Manchester United’s David De Gea to be their two top goalkeeping targets.

Courtois, who spent three seasons on loan with Atletico Madrid, has made no secret of his desire to return to Spain one day, saying last year that he “fell in love” with the country and considers himself “half-Spanish.”
