Theo Walcott: Everton in negotiations to sign Arsenal forward permanently

Walcott has scored 108 goals for Arsenal since joining in 2006 Everton manager Sam Allardyce says the club is negotiating with Arsenal to sign Theo Walcott on a permanent deal. Allardyce said the 28-year-old forward would be a “fantastic addition”, who would offer “goalscoring threat”. He added: “If it’s possible to be over the line I’d be delighted. It’s not imminent but negotiations are ongoing.” Walcott – a two-time FA Cup winner with Arsenal – has featured 395 times for the club but has played just 47 minutes in the Premier League this season. Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger says he has informed Walcott he wants him to stay but added on Friday he has not guaranteed game time to the England international, who has 18 months lef...

After flopping at Atletico Madrid, future’s bright for Vietto at Valencia

Vietto’s hat-trick in his second game for Valencia speaks to his abundant talent. Valencia manager Marcelino Garcia Toral turned to the bench at Mestalla, where his subs and his staff were sitting happily, and a grin shot across his face. “You see what a capricious son of a b—- football is?” he said. To his left, Ezequiel Garay looked a little bemused, which they all were. But while the rest were bemused by what they had just seen, Garay was momentarily bemused by what he had just heard. “Why?” he asked. Why?! Marcelino pointed towards the pitch, where Luciano Vietto had just scored his third goal of the night. Oh, yeah, right. That. Vietto scored a hat-trick in the Cop del Rey against Formentera; now he had scored a hat-trick in the Copa del Rey against...

MANCHESTER — Jose Mourinho has refused to rule out a January bid for Alexis Sanchez while describing the Arsenal forward as a “phenomenal player.” The Chilean has been linked with moves to both Manchester City and Manchester United with no sign he is willing to extend his stay at the Emirates. It was revealed on Friday that City are willing to pull out of a deal to sign the 29-year-old this month after refusing to meet Arsenal’s £35 million valuation. What Will #MeToo Movement Mean for Bill Cosby Retrial?

Legal experts say the huge movement in believing and supporting victims of sexual harassment and assault and swift repercussions — will surely trickle into the new trial, slated to begin April 2. Jurors couldn’t agree the first time around whether to accept a woman’s story that “America’s Dad,” Bill Cosby, sexually assaulted her over a decade ago. Now he faces a retrial in less than 90 days in a vastly different cultural climate, one in which powerful men from Hollywood to the U.S. Senate are being toppled by allegations of sexual misconduct. The jury in Cosby’s case was deadlocked on charges he drugged and molested a woman in 2004, and the judge declared a mistrial in June. But that was before the revelations about movie producer Harvey Weinstein and th...

Mary J Blige Reveals She Could’ve ‘Easily’ Died Like Whitney Houston

In a much-deserved ritual of recognition, Mary J. Blige brought in her 47th birthday Thursday (Jan.11) with her very own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. But Blige’s come-up has not been easy. The nine-time Grammy award-winning singer, songwriter, and actress revealed on the Hollywood Reporter podcast “Awards Chatter” that at earlier points in her career, she could’ve “easily” died the way that Whitney Houston tragically did in 2012, when she overdosed. “People just let you do what you want to do, because they want to keep getting paid,” Blige explained. “It’s easier to deal with you if you’re drunk and you don’t know what’s going on and you just want to party….They’re yes-ma’am-ing you to death. And if you don’t have something in you that recognizes ...

Fu Manchu Premieres Lyric Video for ‘Clone of the Universe,’ Title Track to New Album

Hard rock veterans Fu Manchu dropped their heavy new track “Clone Of The Universe” Friday (Jan. 12) exclusively on Billboard. “‘Clone Of The Universe’ was the last song written for the new record,” says guitarist and vocalist Scott Hill. According to Hill, they already had enough songs for the new record, but “Clone Of The Universe” just sort of wrote itself. “On one of the final days of practice, our drummer, Scott Reeder, was doing these fast drum beats and rolls and I thought it sounded great,” he says. “Next practice, first thing we did was have Reeder do that exact drumming he did the practice before and I played the riff over it. We added it to the ending of the song and now the song was complete.” The song is the first single off their new album, also titled ...

Seal Apologizes for Perceived Oprah Winfrey Attack, Tells Stacey Dash ‘Keep My Name Out of Your Mouth’

Seal came under fire earlier this week after calling out Hollywood’s apparent hypocrisy in the wake of the #MeToo movement against sexual assault and harassment. The “Kiss From A Rose” singer utilized a meme of Oprah Winfrey alongside disgraced former studio mogul Harvey Weinstein that some perceived as his suggestion that the entertainment tycoon knew of Weinstein’s actions. Now, the British singer has taken to his Facebook account to clear the air on the situation. “I have an enormous amount of respect for everything that Oprah has achieved and contributed in her life,” Seal said about the famed talk show host whose name has been floated as a possible challenger to Pres. Trump in 2020 after her rousing Golden Globes speech on Sunday night (Jan. 7). “What I reposted was not an attack on O...

Rocker Jack White announced the release date and revealed the artwork for his new album Friday morning (Jan. 12). Titled Boarding House Reach, the album will be released via his label Third Man Records on Mar. 23 and is the follow-up to his successful Lazaretto album from 2014.  According to a press release, the record finds White “expanding his musical palate with perhaps his most ambitious work thus far, a collection of songs that are simultaneously timeless and modern.” The album is also said to explore “a remarkable range of sonic terrain – crunching rock ‘n’ roll, electro and hard funk, proto punk, hip hop, gospel blues, and even country – all remapped and born anew to fit White’s matchless vision and sense of restless experimentation”. White recently released two songs from the...

39 million Americans now own a smart speaker, report claims

One in six Americans now own a smart speaker, according to new research out this week from NPR and Edison Research – a figure that’s up up 128 percent from January, 2017. Amazon’s Echo speakers are still in the lead, the report says, as 11 percent now own an Amazon Alexa device compared with 4 percent who own a Google Home product. Today, 16 percent of Americans own a smart speaker, or around 39 million people. The holiday shopping season also seemed to have played a role in the increased adoption of smart devices in the U.S., with 7 percent of Americans reporting they acquired at least one smart speaker between Black Friday and the end of December, and 4 percent saying they acquired their first smart speaker during the holidays. Both Amazon and Google used the holiday shopping season to t...

IBM may be prepping for massive changes at Global Technology Services group

IBM has been a company adrift for the last several years with 22 straight quarters of declining revenue. Against that backdrop, The Register published an article yesterday suggesting there could be massive changes afoot for the company’s Global Technology Services group. Global Technology Services is the business consulting arm of IBM that deals with infrastructure support and hardware consulting. As the company has shifted its emphasis to the cloud, GTS’s hardware focus is an area that will have less significance for the company moving forward. This change would need to be seen against the changing backdrop of IT in general. The fact is that companies are moving away from running their own data centers and shifting to public cloud services. Having 100,000 employees focused on hardware dep...
